The Internet Marketing Princess

Comment Spam is Very Interesting

Friday

OK, I know. I suck. It’s been like 500 years since I wrote. But the purpose of this site was to hold myself accountable in my Internet Marketing business. And since I haven’t done ANYTHING, I have been avoiding it.

I’ve kind of kept up with some forums. But I’m just so tired from my job that I find I come home and do nothing for an hour, take a shower and then go to bed so I can go back to the job the next day. THEN, on my days off, I have to run errands and without a car that takes a lot longer than I’d like.

But, I haven’t given up. Not yet. Sometimes I think maybe I’m just not cut out for all of this. But then I start thinking about it and getting excited and I just can’t let it go. Or maybe, it just won’t let me go is more appropriate.

Anyway, I thought I’d dust off the old princess site and write a little something. It’s quite funny. I logged in today and noticed Askimet has caught a TON of comment spam. I have another blog type site that I was keeping up with for a bit and it hardly gets any comment spam. But this one has had hundreds. So, from what I can gather, ringtones must be big business. I already knew about the porn and gambling. And I love the ones that are trying to sound like they aren’t spam. Some “comment” about this site or a post which would probably sound great if I had actually been keeping up with it.

‘K, that’s all I’ve got for today!

J.O.B. and Time Management

Friday
Jun 27,2008

OK, this “job” thing is really getting in the way of my Internet Marketing business.

So far, I have not done a good job with the time management goal. However, I also got a sick this week. So when I wasn’t working for “the man” on “the man’s” schedule, I was konked out… dead to the world. I actually slept for 14 hours straight two nights ago.

So, I’m giving myself a little leeway. First, it’s only been a week. I need some time to settle into a routine, if you will, even though I don’t have a set schedule. And second, I was ill.

Yeah, that’s all I’ve got.

Well, folks. The time has come. And it sucks.

I finally got a J.O.B.

Unfortunately, the people who send me bills don’t understand that I’m learning and building something new so they just keep demanding their money. Why? Why does everyone want to take my money away from me?

So, I’m going to have to get really good at something that has always been a bit of a challenge for me… time management. And it’s going to be tough. I’m not gonna lie. I’ll be working as a hostess at a restaurant which means not just standing all day but standing in heels for 6 to 8 hours straight.

Why heels you ask? Well, it’s part of the uniform because I sure as hell wouldn’t do that to myself on purpose. As if standing all day and being nice to people who are mean to you isn’t cruel enough, I have to do it wearing heels! Don’t get me wrong, I like heels. I look good in heels. But I don’t want to stand for hours on end in them. And obviously with my money problems, I can’t afford the “good” heels which are more comfy than the Target brand heels I own. And don’t talk to me about inserts, cause they don’t work.

OK, back on track. So with a new job, (and my love of TV, books and movies) I’m REALLY going to have to be disciplined with my Internet Marketing business. And I know myself, after I get home from work I’m going to be tired. And I’m going to want to sit and stare mindlessly at the tube and not think or move.

But no!

I promise myself:

  • I will be disciplined!
  • I will devote a minimum of 2 hours on work days and many, MANY hours on my off days to my IM biz.

OK, I’ve got me some learning to do. And some errands to run because tomorrow is my first day on the new job.

Yes, I am addicted.

I love doing keyword research. I love reading forums. I’m loving teaching myself html and I can’t wait to learn more. I love learning about new ways to build your SEO empire.

In case you can’t tell, I’m loving all of this. I knew I was going to like it. But up until I found Vic, Griz and Court, I couldn’t quite get it. All the stuff I bought, all the gurus advice I’d read; all pointed to something I felt like I might enjoy if I could just figure it out. But there was always something missing. Some way of seeing how to do it that would give me a fighting chance.

And now I’ve found the missing link, so to speak. I have a game plan and tools to actually accomplish something. And… I LOVE it!

Yeah, that’s all I’ve got for now.

OK. I believe I have done one of the best things I could do for my Internet Marketing business. I’m not going to make any money from what I did but it will end up saving me money in the long run.

What’s that? You like to save money? You want me to show you how you can also save a little dough, too? I know you’re dying to know so, OK.

I unsubscribed from all the “how to make money online guru” newsletters!! And I use the term newsletters loosely.

I swear to GOD, if I get another email about Mike Filsaimes, 7 Figure Secrets or Code or whatever, I’m going to scream. Yet another, “here’s some freaking amazing FREE stuff! and OhYesAndAlsoAForcedContinuityProgramWithTheHopesThat-

You’llForgetAboutItAndWe’llStillMakeMoneyOffYou.”

So, no more. No more, I say!

How can I focus with all this crap being thrown at me. I have real work to do, damnit!

Speaking of, submitting to directories is a bitch.

I had so many things I wanted to do today, mostly to do with getting backlinks for my BANS sites. Alas, like so many wanna be make-money-from-home dreamers, I have not yet done anything in my “action plan.” Well, I take that back. I started one task but had major problems with the software and am waiting on a reply from the developer.

So, let me tell you what I’ve been doing instead:

  • I got caught up in reading the most recent comments about Vic’s potty mouth over at BU
  • I then had to put my 2 cents in and took WAY too long to leave my own comment
  • I looked through the archives some more and watched a tutorial about 3 times
  • Did some reading on a forum I just joined
  • Fought with my printer so I could print something
  • Made lunch plans for tomorrow
  • Told a friend how just yesterday my ex-business partner (and now ex-friend) screwed me over and how the ONLY source of income I had is now gone
  • Decided I couldn’t spend another minute in my tiny apartment, so I took an hour long bus ride to get to my favorite coffee shop with free wireless (where I am right now)
  • Started and abandoned then started and abandoned a “it’s time to get organized” campaign but then I thought you know, make some damn money THEN get organized

hmm, I know there’s more. OH YES! I made a collection of email titles that guru’s send to lure you into the “Next Big Thing.” I wonder, do these guys really think all the stuff they promote whore themselves out for is as great as they make it sound?

And for list #2:

  • “Last chance, ‘insert name’”
  • “Don’t miss out, ‘instert name’”
  • “Early Bird Price Ending Soon!”
  • “Price is Going Up Soon!”
  • “This will NEVER be Available Again!”
  • “Don’t Miss This FREE Webinar just for MY Readers” (this one usually has about 5 seconds of useful info mixed into an hour long sales call)
  • “Special Price I Got just for You!”
  • “Can You Afford to Miss This?”

This is just a small sampling of the hundreds upon hundreds of “newsletter” emails I get from some of the gurus. I’ve been just sorting these emails into a folder called IM thinking I’ll look at them later. This was before I realized almost all of them were trying to pitch me something. So lately I’ve just been deleting them. But at this moment, I have about 423 of these emails. And who knows how many I’ve deleted in the last few days not to mention the last couple months. So yes, hundreds upon hundreds.

OK, I have to do something that can lead to making money now.

Oh yes, another thing I did today to prevent me from doing the above mentioned, write this post.

D’oh!

Trust, such a tough thing sometimes. There are SO many people out there who will tell you how to set up your Internet Marketing business… for a price ending with the number 7; $7, $67, $97, $197 and so on and so forth. (apparently there’s some philosophy about buyers really liking the number 7) And all these end-with-a-7 products will teach you how to “make money online in a very short amount of time.”

And then you look at this fabulous new product that you just knew was “the one.” You knew that this time you found that magic bullet to rocket you into Internet Marketing royalty. But so often, you find you just bought something way beyond your newbie understanding despite the claims about how it’s “so easy your grandma could do it” (which is kind of insulting to grandmas is you ask me but that’s another post), a bunch of useless junk or a vehicle for that guru to sell you more stuff down the road.

And you start to wonder, is this even possible? Is the only way to make money online to sell other newbies “make money online” products?

I’ll admit it. I have fallen for this many, MANY times. I have an arsenal (hee, i like that word) of “make money online” products. After awhile, one starts to feel, hmm, what’s the word… ah yes, hopeless. But I have found someone (well, actually 3 someones) who have been able to do for me, for FREE, what none of these super amazing guru products I charged to my credit cardS have been able to do.

And what is it? Well, I’m glad you asked. I have two simple words for you: TAKE ACTION!

Yes, my friends. Aside from buying domain names (which I strangely enjoy doing, A LOT), I have not been able to actually DO anything in regards to my Internet Marketing business. I read. I buy. I read. I buy some domain names. I fantasize. Usually do some more buying and reading. But that’s about it. Along the way I have been able to pick up a few things but nothing that has made me any money. But some of those things I actually found for free somewhere else so I could understand what was being “explained” in the eBook I just bought.

However, this is until a couple days ago. Somehow I stumbled upon (and no not with Stumbleupon) a site called Blogger Unleashed. I honestly have no idea how I came across Vic’s site but I’m so grateful I did. At first I was a little confused. Here was a guy, cursing up a storm, insulting people and pretty irate. But something kept me clicking and watching. And through all that profanity and emotion was well, basically, a truly sincere desire to help anyone who will take it and gold, free gold.

And as a result of the tutorials from Vic, I have set up 15 BANS sites so far (i’m taking the 100 BANS sites challenge), yes I bought another product but it’s so totally cool. Have I started making money with them, yet? No but that’s because I haven’t taken the next steps. (that’s part of today’s action plan after i finish this way too long post) But the mere fact that I’ve actually set something up feels like a miracle in itself.

Which brings me to the 2nd someone, Grizzly Brears a.k.a Grizz. His blogger blog about making money online, wow. There is a post there about SEO that I learned more from than ANYTHING I’ve bought about SEO. I’ve slowly but surely started making my way through the posts and once again, free and honest gold.

And the last someone, Courtney Tuttle Internet Marketing School. Court’s site has been a little more difficult for me to get through. Not because it’s harder to understand, it’s just I only have so much time and getting through Vic’s site has taken up a lot of it. And the whole me actually following through bit has taken up some time, too. But I’m truly looking forward to all the gems I’ll find at Court’s site.

It seems from all the comments, which are an education in themselves, on these three sites that Vic, Grizz and Court are good friends (you know what they say about the people you spend your time with) and that most of the people who like one of them like them all. And I’m no different. There’s so many people out there just looking to make money off you that it’s so refreshing to find not just one but THREE people who possess a genuine desire to help.

So, off I go. I gots me some learning to do. Oh and some more action to take.

Internet Marketing in America

Wednesday
May 28,2008

Ah, the American Dream. Or actually, what it has become:

“I wanna be rich! I wanna be famous! And I don’t want to work for it! GIVE IT to me NOW!!!!”

If you search online for anything related to making money i.e. make money online, make money from home, home based business… it’s ridiculous really what people are selling. Or even more ridiculous, what people are buying.

As we’ve all heard, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” And as we all know, every minute someone comes along ready to exploit all those suckers.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Although it may sound like it, I am not a bitter pessimist. I tend to believe in the good in people. No matter if I’ve been burned or how many times, I still trust first. However, if you break that trust, it is hard to get it back.

But, I digress.

Back to the matter at hand, if you’ve been in the internet or affiliate marketing world for any amount of time (1 month or longer), you’ve probably noticed a HUGE trend… free stuff.

At first you think, “Wow, they are giving it away for FREE!?”

Then, “What? They are going to just TELL me how to build a list to make money online? OMG, I don’t have to pay for this amazing little software that will automate my earnings and make me a millionaire with affiliate marketing?!”

So you sign up. And before you know it, you’ve signed up for 5, 10, 15 different “free” things that you never seem to get around to reading or using and now you’re getting several daily emails about this product or that product. (I personally love it when I get 6 emails from 6 different “gurus” all about the same launch) And how amazing it is and if you don’t buy it, you’re missing out on the bestest, most super easy, push button, make you millions in the next 2 days product.

Then the other shoe drops.

That free offer was just a ploy, a hook, if you will. And you are the fish, dangling there waiting for them to pull you in and believe me, they will. They give you just enough and BAM! product launch. And suddenly that “free” offer is not so shiny and new anymore.

Well, my friends, I’m done. I’m done with being marketed at. Now, I’m ready to be the marketER. No, I’m not going to play THEIR game. I’m not going to “develop” a product, a.k.a. rehash some of the sh** out there and sell it to the next desperate-to-make-money sap that comes along, previously known as me. I’m going to actually learn internet marketing! gasp No more hopping around looking for the next big thing!

I know, it sounds crazy but it’s being done and I believe I can do it, too! It’s that whole focus thing everyone goes on about. I’m gonna try it out. See what all the fuss is about.

I’ve got all this fabulous crap on which I spent money I didn’t really have to be spending. (And I mean literally didn’t have because most of it is now credit card debt) But I’m sure somewhere in all this hoo-ha I may be able to find something useful, right?

So, off I go to delve into all this “knowledge.” I’m going to see if I can salvage something from it all and maybe, just maybe start making something to pay all these creditors that keep calling. They sure are a persistent bunch, aren’t they.

Hello!

First I want to say what this site is NOT.

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT a “how to make money online” website.

OK, now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about what this site is.

This is more of a place for me to keep track of my journey into the Internet Marketing, specifically Affiliate Marketing at the moment, world. We’ve all heard about “focus” and “just do it.” Well, I’ve been collecting ebooks and “make money online” programs out the wazoo for about 6 months now but have yet to pull the trigger, so to speak.

The time has come my friends, the time has come. And this is where I will document my attempts and this is where I will hold myself accountable. Cause if I don’t, who will?

Now, I said this is not a “how to make money online” site. But will I be using affiliate links? Well, yeah. Why the hell not?

Afterall, I AM trying to make money online!
